The date palm differs from the Canary Island Palm (Phoenix canariensis) by its greater height (25-30 m), it has a less thick trunk, the leaves are somewhat bluish-green in color; The Canary Island Palm is green, the fall of the petioles leaves characteristic marks, it grows faster than the Canary Palm. 
 Sow better in summer or in protected seedbeds the rest of the year. After sowing transplant when the plants are about 10 cms. and ring when they reach 30 cms. to large pots or in a 5x5 m frame. The sowing depth is 50 mm.
